On Friday, 3 September, Daugavpils Mark Rothko Art Centre opens three new exhibition projects. Between 4 and 7 p.m., visitors can see them in the company of artists and creators.
A painting symposium in memory of Silva Linarte brings Latvian and international artists to the Rothko Centre
Daugavpils Mark Rothko Art Centre hosts the third international painting symposium “Silva Linarte”, conceived to commemorate the distinguished Latgale artist and long-term art educator Silva Veronika Linarte (1939–2018) and her creative legacy. This year, the symposium fortnight brings together artists from four countries.
Till 1st October this year the Young Accordionists are invited to submit their applications for the XII International Contest Named after Valerijs Hodukins "Daugavpils 2021" taking place online on 28 – 30 October within the XVII International Accordion Music Festival in Daugavpils (Latvia).
On 7th of August Daugavpils Fortress will host an international dance performance about time - a journey from memories of the past through the present to the future. Its artistic concept combines contemporary dance and hip-hop, as well as dynamic scenography with large-format projections and mirrors.
From July 16, residents and guests of Daugavpils will have the opportunity to spend evenings of summer days (except Mondays) from 6.00 pm to 9.00 pm going for a walk in Dubrovin Park and Andreja Pumpura Square, where music of various genres will help to create a romantic atmosphere.
Daugavpils City Municipality Tourism Development and Information Agency continues the cycle of exhibitions “Skats no loga” (“View from the Window”) in the shop windows of Daugavpils Tourism Information Centre. This time in the shop windows at 22a Rīgas Street there is an exhibition of dolls of the Baltic Guild of Author Doll and Toy Artists from the collection of Daugavpils Regional Studies and Art Museum.
On 8 July, during a press conference by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Latvia, an international jury named four Latvian cities that will continue to compete for the honour of becoming the European Capital of Culture 2027. Celebrating the 90th anniversary since the birth of the world-renowned native of Daugavpils – ceramicist, architect and art educator Pēteris Martinsons (1931–2013) – and looking forward to the opening of his memorial house at the former gunpowder magazine of Daugavpils Fortress, WeRock Association in cooperation with Daugavpils Mark Rothko Art Centre suggests experiencing his porcelain artworks in a new format, through mobile devices.
Four countries explore the color of light: Utopian abstractions at Daugavpils Mark Rothko Art Center
As museums and other art spaces reopen for individual visitors, artist Māris Čačka’s solo show “Direct Dialogues”, featuring vast works on canvas, is ready to receive visitors at Daugavpils Local History and Art Museum (Latvia). The exhibition will be available 7 through 27 June.
For the first time in Daugavpils, a detailed development program of cultural sector has been developed and approved at the City Council meeting of May 13, which envisages dynamic interdisciplinary and international cooperation over the next seven years, involvement of various social groups in creating cultural offer and implementing environmentally friendly actions in organizing events.
