Daugavpils to submit 6 objects for the competition "The Best Building of the Year in Latvia" City news
Last year was very productive for Daugavpils in the field of construction and development. Several projects have been completed, rebuilt buildings and new buildings have been put into operation, and large areas in various districts of the city have been visually transformed. The work done allows Daugavpils not only to participate in the prestigious competition "The Best Building of the Year in Latvia", which has been organized for more than 20 years, but also to nominate six objects in different nominations.
In the nomination Reconstruction of Engineering/Infrastructure Construction, two projects are presented: reconstruction of Rīgas Street in the section from Cietokšņa to Ģimnāzijas Street in the historical city centre and reconstruction of Bruģu Street in the section from 18. novembra to Ūdensvada Street and reconstruction of Dzirnavu Street in the section from Vidus Street to Bruģu Street in the industrial area Gajoks.
The construction of the two-level overpass on Smiltenes Street to the intersection of Smilšu and Kauņas Streets is applied in the nomination New Engineering/Infrastructure Construction. The construction of a new tram line in the section 18. novembra Street – Stropi will also be submitted for the same nomination. In turn, the construction of the Jaunie Stropi promenade and improvement of the beach area will compete for the victory in the nomination Improvement of Territory – Public and Private.
The building complex of Daugavpils Secondary School of Design and Art “Saules skola” will be nominated in three nominations at once: the building at Saules Street 6 will compete for the title of the best New Building in the public building category, the building at Saules Street 2 – in the nomination Reconstruction, and the block of buildings in general and the public outdoor space (school yard and streets adjacent to the school) will compete for the title of the Public Outdoor Space Object of the Year.
Applications for the competition can be submitted until January 25, 2021, and the results will be announced in early March. Meanwhile, Daugavpils continues to work on other large-scale objects, which will certainly have every chance to become the best buildings in Latvia in the coming years.
