Staff of Daugavpils City Municipality and Daugavpils Innovation Centre gained international experience

Daugavpils City Municipality in cooperation with Trondheim Science Centre (Vitensenteret) in Norway https://vitensenteret.com/en implemented two cooperation project activities in September.

During the visit, the project partners shared their experience in the field of community-based activities, working and organizing informational and educational activities of science and innovation centres aimed at popularizing science and innovation in society and involving society in the activities of innovation and science centres in general.

The project partners shared their experiences about the "Science Festival" (https://www.hyfer.no/en/program/friday), the "Maker Fair" (https://skaperfest.no/) and the nuances of project implementation. Project experts and project implementation staff took over the Trondheim Science Centre’s experience in implementing programs, organizing educational festivals and international project management. There was also a meeting with representatives of the Czech delegation from the centre DOLNÍ VÍTKOVICE (www.dolnivitkovice.cz). The territory of the industrial zone of the Vitkovice metallurgical plant is unique with its industrial architecture, where a science centre, history museums, art galleries are located, and various concerts are held. Colleagues shared their experience on how not to lose visitors, for example, during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Information was gained on how to promote public involvement and increase knowledge development in STEM fields (which include science, technology, engineering and mathematics), as well as in the field of entrepreneurship, by developing and implementing educational programs, interactive thematic lessons and other interactive events for pedagogues and students. New knowledge and experience were gained for attracting and securing the interest of visitors in the long term and using creative approaches in daily work, encouraging the development of innovations and the achievement of the project's goals in general.

The international experience exchange visit took place within the framework of the project “Development of Innovation Centre in Daugavpils”, project No. NFI/IC/VIAA/2020/4, Agreement No. 9.-20.2.2.1/4, implemented under the European Economic Area Financial Mechanism and the Norwegian Financial Mechanism for the period 2014-2021 program “Research and Education” activity “Innovation Centres”.
