UNUSUAL VIDEO COMBINES DAUGAVPILS FORTRESS AND SPEEDWAY

The producers of “LRT+” offer an unusual video “View from Another Angle – Daugavpils Fortress”, in which the cultural and historical heritage of Daugavpils Fortress is reflected through the prism of the city's most popular sport – speedway.

The origins of speedway in Daugavpils can be traced back to the 1960s. The promotion of the development of this type of motorsport in Daugavpils and throughout Latvia was initiated by Dmitrijs Dribincevs, who addressed the city sports committee with a proposal to create a speedway section. In 1964, a speedway club called “Iskra” was founded, which later changed its name to “Locomotive”. Currently, Daugavpils Speedway Club is actively participating in the Polish Second League competitions, part of which takes place on the home track in Daugavpils. Nowadays, speedway is one of the most popular sports in the city, and is called “the religion of Daugavpils” and the most significant accent of the city.

Emphasizing belonging to the city and appreciating the cultural and historical heritage of Daugavpils, the producers of the television “LRT+” have created an unusual promo video. It intertwines two symbols of masculine power – speedway and the architectural features of Daugavpils Fortress. “We want viewers to feel aesthetic pleasure and to be aware of the diverse cultural environment of our city. We hope that the sounds of the engines will soothe the motorsport enthusiasts` yearning for competitions and help to feel the pulse of our city,” emphasize the authors of the video Māris Susejs and Pāvels Hnikins.
