Daugavpils Fortress Culture and Information Centre celebrates its anniversary, this time in virtual format City news

1613

Ten years ago, in the water tower building, which was built in 1865-1866 according to the project of the Dinaburg Fortress engineering team, the Culture and Information Centre of Daugavpils Fortress was opened. To mark the anniversary, a video with the memories and wishes of former and current Information Centre employees has been made in cooperation with the City Council.

The water tower building became the first renovated object in Daugavpils Fortress, when its rebirth had begun in the second decade of the 21st century. After the Russian army left the Fortress, the building has not been used since 1993 and has been demolished. Miraculously, the original wooden spiral staircase and metal water tank have been preserved. By attracting funds from Norway Grants, the municipality started to implement the project "Exemplary Restoration and Management of the Water Tower Building in Daugavpils Fortress" in May 2009, while in May 2011 the first tourism infrastructure object – Daugavpils Fortress Culture and Information Centre – opened its doors to visitors. Today, it is a place where anyone can get detailed information about the history of the Fortress, its structure, the most popular tourism objects and planned events, buy souvenirs, or book sightseeing tours.

Celebrating the anniversary of the Daugavpils Fortress Culture and Information Centre, this time only in digital format, in cooperation with the Daugavpils City Council Public Relations and Marketing Department, a video was made with the memories and wishes of former and current Information Centre employees. What the fortress looked like before 2009, how its buildings were used, what changes it experienced with the opening of the Information Centre – answers to these and other questions are shared by both the first customer service specialists of the Centre and current employees of Daugavpils municipality and the Fortress in the video dedicated to the 10th anniversary.
