Daugavpils autobusu parks Ltd. has set up a new, modern fuel filling station, which facilitates reduction of operating expenses. The enterprise has also purchased new buses. Tourist office in the modern bus terminal has been operating successfully.
The tramway in Daugavpils was opened in 1956. The tram system comprises 25 km of track and 3 tram lines, 27 passenger carriages are transporting people daily.
Tramvaju Uzņēmums JSC celebrated the 65th anniversary in 2011. The number of passengers carried in 2006 reached 9.4 millions, which is an increase of 53.5 000 passengers from the previous year. There exist a clearly marked tendency during recent years - traveller flow is steadily growing, however due to the limited length of track and the dilapidated rolling stock, tram network does not cover all parts of the city and the number of the carried passengers can not be increased.
Tram route scheme of Daugavpils has not been changed for more than 30 years. The last 30 years have seen the extension of the city- new streets and residential areas have been constructed, consequently the necessity to change and improve the route scheme has arisen.
